Driver Escapes as Pickup Truck Engulfed in Flames on Bintulu–Miri Road

Date:

A man narrowly escaped injury after the pickup truck he was driving caught fire at KM846.5 of the Bintulu–Miri Road at around 1.50am today.

Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station chief Rary Binjie said the station received a distress call at 1.55am and immediately dispatched a team of five personnel at 1.56am.

“When they arrived at the scene at 2.10am, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames,” Rary said. The firefighters worked quickly to bring the blaze under control by 2.50am, concluding the operation at 3am.

The driver, who was traveling from Bintulu to Miri, noticed smoke coming from the engine and pulled over safely before the truck ignited, Rary added.

In a separate incident in Lawas, two cars were completely destroyed by fire at Kampung Languban Merapok early this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba Sarawak) said it received a distress call at 2.24am. A team of seven personnel was dispatched and arrived at the site — about 32km from the station — at 2.54am.

Both vehicles were fully destroyed, with firefighters bringing the fire under control by 4.10am. The operation concluded three minutes later.

No casualties were reported in either incident, and investigations are ongoing.
