Two men were killed after their Toyota Estima crashed into a fruit-laden lorry at Km141.5 of the North–South Expressway near the Juru R&R late last night.
The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 11.22pm, prompting a team from the Prai station to rush to the scene. Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said firefighters arrived to find the MPV severely crushed, with both occupants trapped inside.
“Rescuers used specialised equipment to extricate the victims. They were freed at 11.56pm but were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said.
The victims were identified as Mohamad Nizar Abdul Rahman, 32, and Muhammad Fakhrur Razi Usri, 31. The lorry driver escaped unharmed.
John said the operation ended at 12.40am after the area was secured. Police have taken over investigations.
