Police in Cape Coral, Florida, arrested a DoorDash driver on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license, then completed the food delivery themselves.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, officers responded to a report on November 20 of a man appearing unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle that had stopped at a traffic light along Skyline Boulevard and Cape Coral Parkway. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Luis Alania Estrella, was arrested and later transported to the Lee County Jail in stable condition.
Police said Estrella’s Blood Alcohol Content measured 0.15%, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08% in Florida.
During the arrest, one of the officers took the initiative to deliver the DoorDash order to the customer, ensuring it arrived safely and without delay.
DoorDash confirmed that Estrella has been permanently removed from the platform, stating it has “zero tolerance for driving under the influence” and thanking law enforcement for their actions.
Bodycam footage obtained by WBBH showed Estrella slumped over the steering wheel inside his Toyota vehicle. PEOPLE has reached out to both the police department and DoorDash for additional comments.
