Malaysia’s sprint sensation, Azeem Fahmi, narrowly missed out on a medal at the World University Games in Bochum, Germany, after finishing fourth in the men’s 100m final. The Perak-born athlete clocked 10.35 seconds, falling just short of the podium despite his national record of 10.09 seconds.
South Africa’s Joy Walaza Bayanda took home the gold with a time of 10.16 seconds, followed by Thailand’s Puripol Boonson (10.22) and Japan’s Hiroki Yanagita (10.23), who claimed silver and bronze respectively.
Azeem, currently pursuing his studies at Auburn University in the United States, has a season best of 10.20 seconds.
In other events, Sea Games 400m champion Umar Osman ran 47.10 in the men’s 400m semi-finals, finishing seventh and missing out on a place in the final.
Meanwhile, Farrell Glenn Felix Jurus from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, a Sea Games bronze medallist, recorded a jump of 2.08m in the men’s high jump qualifying rounds, placing sixth in his group and finishing 14th overall out of 23 athletes.
