AirAsia will soon allow female cabin crew to wear the hijab as part of its signature red uniform, giving staff greater freedom to dress in line with their beliefs.
The airline said the move reflects its diverse workforce and aims to provide better comfort, confidence, and inclusivity for cabin crew — whether they are operating flights in Penang or Paris.
Hijabs are already worn on specific routes such as Jeddah, where local regulations require them. Under the new policy, the option will be expanded across AirAsia’s entire network for uniform consistency.
The updated uniform will include a customised hijab and pants designed to complement the existing red outfit. The rollout is planned ahead of Ramadan 2026.
“One of AirAsia’s biggest strengths has always been our diverse and outspoken Allstars. When our cabin crew raised this request, it was important for us to listen,” said Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A.
Passengers can expect to see the familiar red uniforms remain — now with added flexibility for crew who choose to don the hijab.
