37-Year-Old Johor Man Arrested in Sexual Assault Probe After Sending Inappropriate Message to Niece

Date:

A 37-year-old telecommunications employee in Johor has been arrested following a disturbing birthday message sent to his 15-year-old niece via WhatsApp, which led to the revelation of a more serious offense.

According to Kluang police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh, the teenager received a message from her uncle on June 24 while she was at school, requesting a birthday gift. When she replied that she didn’t have any money, he allegedly hinted that there were “gifts” that didn’t require any. The victim understood this as an invitation to engage in inappropriate behavior. Disturbed, she filed a police report on July 5.

During the investigation, the victim disclosed that the man had sexually assaulted her in 2023 while she was staying over at his house. The alleged incident occurred while she was asleep, and she did not report it at the time due to fear.

The suspect, who has no prior criminal record and tested negative for drugs, was arrested on July 11. He has been remanded for five days to assist in investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
