A devastating house fire in Taman Teluk Air Tawar, Penang, this morning has claimed the lives of two people, believed to be a mother and her daughter, while a third person, thought to be the son, sustained injuries.
The Penang Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 9:41am. Firefighters arrived to find a Class A residential unit measuring approximately 40 by 70 feet engulfed in flames, with about 80% of the structure already destroyed.
Fire crews carried out rescue and firefighting operations, bringing the blaze under control by 10:15am, though some operations remain ongoing.
Assistant Director (Operations) John Sagun Francis said two individuals were trapped inside the home. “One victim was rescued early on, but it was later confirmed that both had perished,” he said, adding that firefighters acted swiftly but faced extreme conditions due to the intensity of the fire.
