Man Arrested After Viral Video Shows Assault on Teenagers

Police have arrested a man after a video showing him assaulting several teenagers at a business premises went viral on social media.

The incident is believed to have taken place at about 11.55pm on Dec 14 and involved a group of tahfiz students and a local man in his 30s.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda said the suspect was detained to assist investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon, as well as Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

“Further investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident and the involvement of all parties, based on the viral footage,” he said in a statement.

Kasim also urged members of the public with information related to the case to come forward and lodge a report at the nearest police station.

The 1-minute-30-second video, which sparked widespread public outrage, shows the man repeatedly hitting, slapping and kicking the teenagers, including striking them with a helmet.
