Kota Belud Blaze Claims Lives of Husband and Wife

Date:

A married couple tragically lost their lives in a house fire that broke out in Kampung Sangkir during the early hours of the morning. The victims, identified as 47-year-old Mamat @ Jamrin Sinti and his wife, Noorijah Rashid, were found burned to death in the bathroom of their home.

According to District Fire and Rescue station chief Elge Bakuk, the emergency call was received at 2:52am. A team of 10 firefighters, supported by a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders found the single-storey house fully engulfed in flames. A nearby Proton Saga vehicle was also destroyed in the fire. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 3:22am. Sadly, during the search operation, the couple’s remains were discovered in the bathroom.

Firefighting efforts included the use of one hose line and two jets, with water sourced from the fire engine. Once it was confirmed that no other hazards remained, the operation was officially concluded at 4:55am.

District police chief Superintendent Shahrudin Mat Husain confirmed that the couple’s remains were sent to the Forensic Unit of Kota Belud Hospital for post-mortem examination. He added that Mamat had been working as a rubber tapper, and that the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department.
