The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) today assisted 22 Malaysian University English Test (MUET) examiners who were stranded after floodwaters cut off Jalan Gambang from the examination centre.
Kuantan APM Disaster Operations Division officer Lt. (PA) Aznor Hafizi Ahmad said the department received a call around 7:30 am and deployed six personnel to Masjid Baru Gambang, where the examiners had gathered.
The examiners were transported to the Gambang Matriculation College examination centre using a lorry, as floodwaters along the route had risen over half a metre. “All examiners arrived safely at the centre at 9:36 am, and we remain on standby for any further incidents,” he told Bernama.
The MUET examination, originally scheduled to begin at 8 am, was delayed pending the arrival of the examiners.
A Bernama check found several vehicles attempting to use Jalan Gambang were forced to turn back for safety, with police deployed to manage traffic.
Continuous rain in the Kuantan district for more than 48 hours has caused flooding in several residential areas, including Batu 6, Sri Damai, and Jalan Kuantan-Sungai Lembing. Several temporary relief centres are expected to open today.
