Man Pleads Not Guilty To Firearm Possession Following Neighbour Dispute

Date:

A 37-year-old unemployed man, Kor Wei Ye, pleaded not guilty today to unlawful possession of a firearm following a dispute with his neighbours last week. He entered the plea before Sessions Court Judge Nabisha Ibrahim Mohd Fitri with the assistance of a Mandarin interpreter.

Kor was accused of possessing a silver-coloured Sigarms pistol without lawful authority at a house in Bandar Laguna Merbok around 9am on Dec 7. The charge was framed under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and a minimum of six strokes of the cane upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Muhammad Fitri Wan Azizan led the prosecution, while Kor was represented by counsel Chong Choon Yuen. Bail was denied, and the court fixed Jan 21 for mention.

Separately, Kor also claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court to five other charges: three counts of criminal intimidation, one count of possessing firearm ammunition, and one count of drug possession. The charges were read out before Magistrate Muhamad Syaiful Akmal Mohamad Razi.

For the criminal intimidation charges, Kor allegedly threatened three individuals—Ng Shy Ciou, 42; Ong Chan Siang, 71; and Ng Lian Fook, 73—with death at the same location and time. These offences fall under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine, or both.

Kor also faces a charge under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act for allegedly possessing 10 rounds of ammunition without a licence, punishable by up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.

For the drug offence, Kor is accused of possessing 45.5g of ketamine, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act. Conviction carries a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Adlin Sufiya Kamaruzzaman appeared for the prosecution in the Magistrate’s Court, while Kor was represented by the same counsel. No bail was granted for these charges, pending the outcome of the Sessions Court case.

The court scheduled Jan 21 for mention of the criminal intimidation and ammunition charges, while the drug possession case is set for April 21.
