Nearly 9,000 Displaced As Floods Worsen Across Five States

A total of 8,945 flood victims from 2,837 families are currently taking shelter at 86 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) across five states nationwide as of 7am today.

Data from the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana portal shows that those affected include 2,887 women and 2,865 men, comprising 816 senior citizens and 296 persons with disabilities (PWDs). The displaced population also includes 2,905 children and 288 infants.

Pahang recorded the highest number of evacuees, with 69 evacuation centres operating across five districts — Kuantan, Maran, Rompin, Pekan and Cameron Highlands. These centres are currently housing 8,148 victims from 2,618 families.

This is followed by Johor, where three PPS have been opened in Mersing, accommodating 347 victims from 90 families. In Terengganu, 11 PPS were activated in Dungun and Kemaman, sheltering 385 victims from 118 families.

Meanwhile, Selangor reported 47 flood victims from eight families housed at a PPS in Gombak, while in Sarawak, 18 people from three families have sought refuge at two PPS in Miri.

Separately, the Drainage and Irrigation Department’s (DID) Info Banjir portal recorded danger-level water levels at nine monitoring stations across Pahang, Terengganu, Johor and Sarawak.

In Pahang, two stations reached danger levels — Sungai Kuantan at Pasir Kemudi, Kuantan, and Sungai Pahang at Kuala Sungai Chini, Pekan.

Terengganu recorded danger levels at five stations, including three in KemamanSungai Kemaman at Jambatan Air Putih and Rumah Pam Paya Paman, and Sungai Tebak at Jambatan Tebak — as well as Sungai Besut at Jambatan Keruak, Besut, and Sungai Berang at Kampung Menerong, Hulu Terengganu.

In Johor, danger levels were recorded at Sungai Lenik in Ladang Chaah, Batu Pahat, while Sarawak reported danger-level readings at two monitoring stations in Miri.
