Decomposed Body Of Unidentified Man Found Along Johor River

Date:

Police have discovered the decomposed body of an unidentified man along the Sungai Bayu Puteri river near an apartment complex in Kampung Bakar Batu Majidee.

Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the body was found at about 5.58pm yesterday and was already in an advanced state of decomposition.

He said no identification documents were found on the body, and there were no visible Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccination scars or readable fingerprints that could assist in identification.

The BCG vaccine is routinely administered to newborns in Malaysia, and the presence of a BCG scar may indicate that a person was born in the country, although it is not conclusive proof of nationality.

Raub said a post-mortem examination was carried out at Sultanah Aminah Hospital, but the cause of death could not be determined due to the condition of the remains.

“There are currently no missing person reports that match the physical characteristics of the deceased in nearby areas, including Permas Jaya, Majidee and Johor Jaya,” he said in a statement today.

He added that investigations are ongoing to establish the man’s identity and urged members of the public with any information to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Khairul Naqwan, at 010-661 0620.

“At this stage, we are appealing for public assistance. Any information, no matter how minor, could be vital,” he said.
