Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei Lose to China, Finish Second in World Tour Finals Group

World mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei were defeated by China’s Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping today, finishing as runners-up in Group B at the World Tour Finals (WTF).

The fourth-ranked Malaysian pair lost 18-21, 24-26 in a 53-minute match at the Olympics Sports Centre Gymnasium, allowing the world No 1 Chinese duo to top the group.

A fresh draw tonight will determine their semi-final opponents, scheduled to be announced tomorrow. Chen and Toh had won silver at last year’s WTF.

Meanwhile, compatriots Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie suffered their third defeat in the tournament, ending last in Group B. The world No 9 pair lost 17-21, 17-21 to Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Pasaribu in 34 minutes.

Despite the setback, the Malaysian pairs will collectively take home prize money of US$21,000 (RM85,854).
