PM Anwar Calls for Continued Solidarity with Palestine

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has renewed calls for Malaysia to stand firmly with Gaza until Palestinians achieve justice and freedom.

In a Facebook post today, Anwar highlighted the courage of Malaysians who participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla earlier this year. The flotilla volunteers braved rough seas and harsh treatment during detention by Israeli authorities, demonstrating Malaysia’s solidarity with the Palestinian people.

“When major world powers remained silent or even penalised those who spoke out against the Zionist regime, Malaysia openly supported the Global Sumud Flotilla’s humanitarian mission to Gaza,” he said.

Following the flotilla’s interception by Israel on Oct 2 and the detention of 23 Malaysian volunteers, Anwar said the government acted swiftly. “Every moment was utilised to formulate strategies, mobilise diplomatic channels and ensure their safety remained the nation’s utmost priority,” he added.

The Prime Minister noted that high-level negotiations involving Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and the United States led to the safe release of all humanitarian volunteers. They returned home on Oct 7, bringing relief and joy to Malaysians who had been closely following the developments.

Anwar’s remarks underscore Malaysia’s continued commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts in Gaza and advocating for Palestinian rights.
