JPJ Inspects Nearly 14,000 Commercial Vehicles, Over 4,500 Summonses Issued in Northern Ops

Date:

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has conducted 13,902 inspections on commercial vehicles under Ops Perang in the Northern Zone so far, issuing a total of 4,513 summonses, including 45 cases involving overloading offences.

Kedah JPJ director Stien Van Lutam said three of the cases involved vehicles carrying loads exceeding 50 per cent above the permitted limit, offences that could result in prosecution and vehicle forfeiture.

He said Ops Perang is being carried out continuously across all districts through mobile patrols and static operations at strategic locations and major routes, particularly along logistics corridors and high-risk areas.

“For overloading offences exceeding 50 per cent of the allowable limit, prosecution will be initiated under Section 80 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715).

“If convicted, the court may order the forfeiture of the vehicle involved, in addition to imposing heavy fines and further action against the driver’s licence and vehicle permit,” he said at the JPJ Enforcement Station in Kuala Ketil on Monday.

Stien said overloading offences not only endanger road users but also cause damage to public infrastructure such as roads and bridges.

He stressed that JPJ would not compromise with any party found violating the law, and strict enforcement action would be taken in accordance with existing regulations.

He also urged all commercial vehicle operators and drivers to comply with regulations and ensure that their cargo does not exceed the permitted load limits.

Meanwhile, Stien said JPJ Kedah has successfully collected RM23.39 million in fines involving 121,694 summons notices issued since January this year.
