‘We Will Not Stop’: Najib’s Son Vows to Keep Fighting for His Father

Date:

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak had begun packing some of his belongings in anticipation of a favourable High Court ruling that would allow him to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest, according to his son Datuk Mohamad Nizar.

In a TikTok video posted yesterday, Nizar said he noticed his father was in high spirits earlier in the day and appeared confident about the court’s decision.

“When I met my father, he was cheerful that morning and had already packed some of his belongings,” he said.

However, the family’s expectations were shattered when the High Court in Kuala Lumpur dismissed Najib’s application.

Expressing disappointment, Nizar said the family had been pursuing Najib’s house arrest since early last year, after he personally received a copy of a royal addendum from the Pahang sultan.

“The document truly exists. The decree exists,” he stressed, alleging that the document had been kept from public knowledge.

The Pahang sultan, who was the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, had previously issued an addendum ordering that Najib serve the remainder of his prison sentence at home.

Yesterday, High Court judge Alice Loke ruled that the addendum did not comply with the procedures stipulated under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution, which governs the exercise of royal pardon powers. As a result, Najib’s judicial review was dismissed.

Nizar concluded his video by saying that the family would continue their efforts and would not rest until his father is freed.
