Police have detained a man suspected of being involved in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion at the Desa Palma apartment complex in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, on Dec 22.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the 62-year-old suspect, identified as Yeoh Hock Sun, was located in Mantin after police received information from the public.
“He was found in a forested area in Batang Benar in a weak and injured condition,” Alzafny said when contacted.
The suspect was subsequently taken to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital for medical treatment.
Alzafny said police had been searching for Yeoh to assist in investigations following the explosion. Investigations revealed that the man is believed to have technical knowledge and specialised skills in the manufacture of explosive devices, based on equipment and materials seized from his rented residence.
During a search of the house, police discovered 31 additional IEDs, all of which were later safely destroyed by the authorities.
Earlier reports said an explosion occurred in the early hours of Monday at a parking area within the Desa Palma apartment complex, causing alarm among residents.
Nilai deputy district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohamad Asiff Jamaldin said police received a distress call regarding the incident at about 6.30am.
