As 2026 began, a fortune-telling session in Thailand quickly turned criminal when a client discovered her iPhone missing.
The incident occurred on January 1 near Wat Chaimongkol, where fortune teller Udomsap Mueangkaew, dressed as an elderly man, offered his services to passersby. A woman named Pim approached him, and during the session, he predicted she would lose “something valuable” and offered to ward off the bad luck for a fee, which she declined.
Shortly after leaving, Pim realized her iPhone 13 Pro, worth approximately 20,000 baht (RM2,500), was gone. When she returned to confront Udomsap, he claimed the theft confirmed his “accurate” prediction. Suspicious, Pim sought help from bystanders, who discovered her phone in the fortune teller’s bag. Police were called.
Udomsap admitted to stealing the iPhone, saying he needed money for the New Year and apologizing, claiming it was his first offense. Pim refused to drop the case, citing concern for potential future victims. Udomsap was taken into custody along with his fortune-telling props.
