A newborn baby boy was found dead in a rubbish bin inside the women’s toilet at the Yong Peng rest and service area along the North-South Expressway yesterday.
Yong Peng district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said authorities were alerted to the discovery at about 3pm.
Medical officers from the Yong Peng health clinic were dispatched to the scene and confirmed that the infant was fully formed, with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached. The baby had been wrapped in a shirt before being placed in the rubbish bin.
The body was subsequently sent to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Shahrulanuar said the case is being investigated under Section 316 of the Penal Code for causing the death of a child below 12 years old.
He urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward, either by lodging a report at the nearest police station or by contacting the Johor police hotline at 07-2212 999 or Batu Pahat police at 07-434 3999.
Police are appealing for public assistance to help identify the parents or individuals involved in the case.
