S’pore teen, 17, Given Sentence for Dangerous Trespass on Singapore MRT Tracks

Date:

A 17-year-old in Singapore was sentenced to 18 months’ probation on Jan. 6 after illegally entering MRT tracks along Upper Changi Road between Simei and Tanah Merah stations.

Under the court order, he must observe a curfew from 10pm to 6am, complete 80 hours of community service, and his parents are required to place a S$5,000 bond to ensure his good behaviour during probation, reported Lianhe Zaobao.

Court documents revealed that the boy discovered scaffolding leading to the MRT tracks in January 2025 and hatched a plan to trespass. On Mar. 27, 2025, he covered his face with his shirt, crawled through a gap at the construction site, and walked along the third track for 5–10 minutes while filming trains as they passed. He later posted the footage on Instagram.

The teenager was also involved in another incident on May 16, 2025, in which he climbed onto a rooftop in his underwear and later entered the bedroom of an 86-year-old woman, hiding under her bed until surrendering to police.

In November 2025, he pleaded guilty to one count of trespassing and one count of violating the Rapid Transit Systems Act. His defence cited a developmental delay, short attention span, and mild autistic traits, emphasizing that he has since redirected his energy into productive activities such as rock climbing, hiking, and volunteering as a dog trainer.

While the judge described the offences as “very serious,” he gave the boy a second chance, urging his parents to guide him in correcting his behaviour.
