10-Year-Old Boy Attacked by Giant Python After Accidentally Kicking It In Pekan

Date:

A 10-year-old boy narrowly escaped serious injury after being attacked by a six-metre-long python while running to his uncle’s house in Kampung Temai Hulu, Pekan, on Tuesday evening.

The frightening incident happened at about 6.30pm when Abdul Rafka Azka Abdullah accidentally kicked the snake, which was believed to weigh close to 50kg. The startled python immediately coiled itself around the boy and bit his right leg.

His older brother, Muhammad Nukman Muhammad Nizam, who was about 20 metres away at the time, rushed to help after hearing his screams.

“When I reached him, the snake had already wrapped itself from his leg up to his body, and its mouth was clamped on his leg, causing bleeding,” he said.

Muhammad Nukman tried to pull the snake off but was unable to overpower it and both of them fell to the ground. He then called out for their uncle, Ramzi Mohamad Amin, who was inside the house.

Ramzi, 57, ran out and attempted to pry open the python’s jaws with his bare hands, injuring his fingers in the process. When that failed, he used a sharp object to force the snake’s mouth open.

After about 30 minutes of struggle, the boy was finally freed from the python’s grip.

Abdul Rafka, who suffered injuries to his leg, was rushed to Pekan Hospital for treatment. Ramzi said the python may have come from nearby bushes or a rubber plantation close to the house.

The snake was later captured and handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), which arrived after receiving a report.
