A partially decomposed body bearing a tattoo was found washed up on the shore at Pantai Lagenda near Kuala Pahang on Wednesday morning, prompting a police investigation.
The remains were discovered at about 10am by a villager who immediately alerted the authorities. Police arrived at the scene roughly 15 minutes later.
Pekan police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the body was located along a secluded stretch of coastline that is rarely frequented by the public.
“No identification documents were found and there were no signs of foul play at the scene. The only distinguishing feature on the body was a tattoo on the lower hip,” he said in a statement.
The remains have been taken to Pekan Hospital and will later be transferred to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital forensic unit in Kuantan for a post-mortem examination and DNA testing to determine the cause of death and establish the victim’s identity.
Zaidi added that no missing persons reports have been filed in the district in the past week, and the gender of the deceased has yet to be confirmed.
