A man went through a terrifying ordeal after the car he was driving was struck by a detached lorry tyre that came loose and flew onto the roadway along the Kajang–Puchong road on the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) on Saturday.
Sepang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of the Sepang District Police Headquarters received a report of the incident at around 8pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident involved a tipper lorry and a Proton Satria Neo.
“The lorry was travelling from Kajang to Puchong when its rear left tyre burst and detached, falling from the flyover before landing on the vehicle below,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
The tyre struck the rear roof of the car. However, the driver, believed to be in his 20s, was reported to be unharmed.
Norhizam said both drivers possessed valid driving licences and have lodged police reports at the Sepang District Police Headquarters.
“The accident did not result in any injuries and only caused damage to the vehicles involved,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and the public has been advised not to speculate in a manner that could interfere with police investigations.
Members of the public with information related to the incident are urged to contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer, Inspector Nurul Sakela Ramli, at 019-558 8221 or 03-8777 4264.
