UMNO Youth Chief, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, has confirmed that he shared his thoughts and intentions during a meeting with UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) yesterday.
Dr Muhamad Akmal, who is also the Merlimau State Assemblyman (ADUN) and Melaka EXCO for Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security, expressed gratitude to Ahmad Zahid for taking the time to listen to him.
“I have conveyed my thoughts and intentions to Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional Chairman. Thank you for your advice and for taking the time to listen. God willing, this will be for the best for the cause of religion, race, country, and UMNO,” he said in a Facebook post last night.
However, he did not provide details of the discussion or indicate whether he would continue holding his current positions.
Yesterday, Ahmad Zahid reportedly met with Dr Muhamad Akmal and offered guidance for his consideration. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said the decision regarding Dr Muhamad Akmal’s potential resignation would be announced by the latter himself.
Earlier reports suggested that Dr Muhamad Akmal was considering stepping down from his current posts following calls for UMNO to exit the Unity Government, a move that reportedly drew a negative reaction from Ahmad Zahid.
Dr Muhamad Akmal had previously stated that he would abide by the decisions made by Ahmad Zahid and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh regarding his positions, as both parties had supported his candidacy for the State Assembly and the EXCO portfolio.
