Samsuri Slams Claim Pas Would Lose 37 Seats Under His Leadership as ‘Ridiculous’

Date:

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has dismissed claims that Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (Pas) would lose 37 parliamentary seats if he were to lead Perikatan Nasional (PN), calling the assertion “ridiculous”.

The Kemaman Member of Parliament declined to elaborate further when asked to respond to remarks made by Sungai Buloh Pas chief Zaharudin Muhammad.

“Let him say whatever he wants,” Ahmad Samsuri said briefly when contacted yesterday.

“It’s ridiculous. It’s not worth even a single cent to comment on him. Let him be,” he added.

Zaharudin had earlier claimed that Pas risked losing 37 parliamentary seats should Ahmad Samsuri assume the leadership of PN. The son-in-law of Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said his conclusion was based on internal party data, but declined to provide further details.

He also voiced concern over growing calls to replace PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin with Ahmad Samsuri, warning that such a move could negatively affect both the party and the country under three possible scenarios.

However, Zaharudin’s remarks were later played down by Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who clarified that the comments reflected personal opinions and did not represent the party’s official stance.

Tuan Ibrahim pointed to Pas’ performance in Terengganu under Ahmad Samsuri’s leadership as evidence to the contrary, noting the party’s strong electoral results in the state.

“If we look at the achievements of the Terengganu government under his leadership, Pas delivered an outstanding performance by winning all state assembly and parliamentary seats in Terengganu,” he said.
