The father of a woman who died in a fatal highway crash has suggested that the car she was travelling in was moving at extremely high speed moments before the accident.
Speaking to Sin Chew Daily, he said the vehicle took only three to four minutes to travel between two toll plazas along the North–South Expressway, which he believed indicated the car was travelling far above the speed limit.
He added that investigating officers later showed him highway CCTV footage recorded prior to the crash, which appeared to show the vehicle moving at very high speed.
The crash occurred at about 1.05am yesterday near a toll plaza on the North–South Expressway. The woman and her boyfriend were travelling together when their car reportedly lost control, collided with a structure near the toll area and overturned.
Both occupants were unable to exit the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.
During the interview, the victim’s father struggled to hold back tears as he spoke about his daughter. He also revealed that he had initially advised her against making the trip, but she insisted on going. Not wanting to upset her, he eventually agreed.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
