10-Month-Old Baby Found With Broken Needle in Neck and Hundreds of Needle Wounds

Date:

Authorities in China are investigating after a doctor revealed that a 10-month-old baby boy was found with hundreds of needle puncture wounds across his body, including a broken needle lodged in his neck.

The case came to light after a spinal surgeon from Xinhua Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University shared details on a short-video platform on Jan 14. The doctor said the infant was brought in for treatment after a sewing needle inserted through the neck broke, leaving a fragment embedded near the cervical spine, creating a life-threatening situation that required surgery.

According to the doctor, medical staff involved in the consultation were shocked to find an estimated 500 to 600 needle marks on the baby’s body. He said the child’s body surface area was small due to his age, making the number of puncture wounds particularly alarming.

Preliminary information indicated that the infant’s mother may have mental health issues. While caring for the child alone at home, she allegedly used sewing needles to prick the baby when he cried or did not comply, claiming it was a form of bloodletting.

The Kunming Municipal Health Commission confirmed that police have intervened in the case, while multiple departments in Mojiang County have launched investigations to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
