Courier Firm Caught Violating Minimum Wage Law In Selangor Raid

Date:

A courier services company in Selangor was found to have violated the Minimum Wage Order 2024 after paying workers daily in cash during an enforcement operation conducted by the Labour Department.

The operation, carried out last night by the Peninsular Malaysia Labour Department (JTKSM), was coordinated by the Selangor JTK Special Enforcement Team and involved 35 enforcement officers focusing on the courier services sector.

JTKSM deputy director-general (operations) Betty Hasan said the operation underscored the department’s ongoing commitment to ensuring full compliance with national labour laws.

A total of 295 workers were inspected during the operation, comprising 120 local workers and 175 foreign workers from Indonesia, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Among the offences detected were failure to comply with the Minimum Wage Order 2024 and breaches of Section 25A of the Employment Act 1955 for paying wages daily in cash. Authorities also uncovered violations of Section 60A involving the non-payment of overtime wages, she said in a statement.

Betty said JTKSM would continue to intensify enforcement actions under the legislation within its jurisdiction.

“This enforcement is a crucial proactive measure to curb non-compliance with labour laws,” she said, adding that consistent enforcement was necessary to protect the welfare of both local and foreign workers and to promote industrial harmony.

She also noted that such operations serve as a platform to provide employers with guidance and advice on the importance of complying with labour regulations, in line with the government’s efforts to create a fair, safe and prosperous working environment for all.
