Police have launched an investigation following a viral video showing a man sitting cross-legged on the North-South Expressway (NSE).
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon and resulted in traffic congestion, while also posing a danger to the individual involved and other road users.
According to him, the man, believed to be a trailer driver, had stopped his heavy vehicle in the emergency lane before sitting in the middle of the first lane for reasons that remain unclear.
“The man’s actions endangered public safety and disrupted traffic flow,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 48(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing obstruction on the road, as well as Section 336 of the Penal Code for acts that endanger human life.
Both offences carry penalties including fines and imprisonment upon conviction.
Members of the public with information related to the incident are urged to contact the nearest police station, the Kajang district police control centre at 03-8911 4243, or the investigating officer, Inspector Saifudin Saadun, at 011-2111 9379.
