Acid Thrown on Man in Gurun, Police Say Motive Was Jealousy

Date:

A man sustained burns to his face, neck, and chest after being doused with acid at a petrol station in Jeniang, Gurun last Friday.

Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan, said police at the Gurun Police Station received a call at 3:15am from a woman reporting that a 36-year-old man had been attacked with acid at the location.

The victim, who works at a canteen, suffered burns covering 11 percent of his body.

“Police traced and arrested a 36-year-old suspect, employed as a driver, earlier this morning,” he said.

Hanyan added that the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, and preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was motivated by jealousy.

The suspect will be remanded this morning to assist in the investigation, while the victim is receiving treatment at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH).
