Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed gratitude today as the ringgit strengthened to RM3.968 against the US dollar this morning.
“Alhamdulillah (praise be to God),” Anwar remarked when asked about the currency’s performance.
He made the brief comment after delivering his opening speech at the National Audit Department’s 120th anniversary celebration.
The ringgit’s rise marks a significant recovery from the RM4.74 level recorded when Anwar assumed office in November 2022. The boost comes amid Bank Negara Malaysia’s decision last Thursday to keep the overnight policy rate (OPR) steady at 2.75 per cent.
Analysts say the combination of a stable OPR and other positive economic indicators has strengthened confidence in the Malaysian currency, with forecasts suggesting the ringgit could continue a gradual appreciation throughout 2026.
