Single Mother Fined RM6,000 For Prostitution, Immigration Offences

A Thai single mother was fined RM6,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to soliciting customers for prostitution and breaching the conditions of her temporary work visit pass.

Magistrate Arun Noval Dass imposed the fine on Rattanavadee Khomgrajang, 43, under Section 372B of the Penal Code and Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. The court ordered her to serve nine months in jail if she failed to pay the fine, which she settled.

According to the first charge, the mother of one was accused of soliciting for prostitution at a hotel along Jalan Abu Bakar at about 7.10pm on January 21. The offence carries a penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine, or both.

She was also charged with violating the terms of her temporary work visit pass at the same location and time, an offence punishable by up to six months’ imprisonment, a RM1,000 fine, or both.

Case facts revealed that police from the Batu Pahat district criminal investigation division conducted a raid at the hotel and found the accused with a male customer in a room. She admitted to receiving RM250 in cash for sexual services.

Police seized items including towels, three condoms, lubricant, tissues and cash. Immigration checks showed she held a valid social visit pass but did not possess a valid work permit.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan, while the accused was represented by lawyer Tan Song Yan.
