Woman Spits Water on MRT Commuters and Floor in Singapore, Sparks Public Outrage

Date:

A woman caused shock and disgust among commuters on a Singapore MRT train when she repeatedly spat water from her mouth onto fellow passengers and the train floor. The incident, captured in an Instagram video dated January 23, has since gone viral, garnering over 60,000 likes.

In the clip, the woman is seen drinking from a plastic water bottle before directing the contents at a commuter, who flinches and steps back. She then continues the behavior multiple times, wetting both passengers and the floor.

One female passenger, clearly irritated, confronted the woman and tried to take the bottle away, asking: “What’s wrong with you?” The woman eventually retreated to a corner and ceased the behavior. The passenger could be heard saying, “Nobody is offending you right? This is not the first time you do this!”

Online netizens reported that the woman is a client of a mental health charity that helps individuals reintegrate into society. She also appeared on CNA last October for World Mental Health Day, where she was identified as autistic and diagnosed with anxiety and PTSD at age 17.

Under Singapore law, spitting or expelling bodily fluids in public spaces is prohibited. Offenders can face fines of up to S$1,000 (approximately RM3,100) for a first-time offense, and up to S$2,000 (RM6,200) for repeat offenses.
