The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Perak, Selangor, Sarawak, Sabah, and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
The affected areas in Perak include Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, and Hilir Perak, while in Selangor, Sabak Bernam is under alert. In Sarawak, the warning covers Kapit, Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri, and Marudi), and Limbang. Sabah areas include the interior (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort), the west coast, Tawau (Tawau and Lahad Datu), and Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, and Sandakan). The warning is also in effect for WP Labuan.
The alert is valid until 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
The warning is issued when conditions indicate thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 mm per hour are occurring or expected to last for more than one hour. Each thunderstorm warning is short-term and remains valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
Residents in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant, avoid outdoor activities during severe weather, and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
