PM Anwar Gives One-Week Ultimatum To Enforcers: Act Or Step Aside

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has issued a stern one-week ultimatum to individuals holding leadership and enforcement positions, warning them to take decisive action against smuggling, corruption and abuse of power, or step aside if they are unable to carry out their responsibilities.

Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Address to Heads of Departments and Enforcement Agencies Involved in Financial Crime today, Anwar stressed the urgent need for integrity, accountability and proactive enforcement within government agencies.

“Those entrusted with leadership and enforcement roles must fulfil their duties or step aside. We cannot allow negligence, smuggling or corruption to continue unchecked. This is a matter of national interest, and the public expects firm and decisive action,” he said.

He urged department heads and enforcement leaders to assess their ability to perform their duties effectively, adding that those unable to act boldly should notify their superiors or inform him directly within the one-week period.

“Step aside if necessary. The people are looking for real change and action, not complacency,” he said.

Anwar also warned that delays, excuses or inaction would no longer be tolerated, emphasising that responsibility applies regardless of rank or position.

“What matters is doing what is right and necessary for the country. We have a duty to protect our families, our society and our beloved nation,” he said, expressing hope that the directive would be implemented without delay.
