Terengganu Launches QR Code Attendance System in Schools

Date:

SMK Seri Budiman has been selected as the pilot school for the implementation of a new digital application designed to systematically record and manage student information.

State Education Department director Kamsah Mohamed said the system, known as Budiman Net, allows students to record their attendance by scanning a QR code, with all data stored in a centralised digital database.

He explained that the system enables schools to conduct comprehensive analyses of students’ performance and development, including attendance, academic achievements and co-curricular involvement.

“With the stored data, schools can easily identify students who are performing at high, average or low levels. More importantly, it cammes to address issues such as poor attendance,” he said.

Kamsah added that the digital application would significantly reduce teachers’ workload, as it eliminates the need for physical record-keeping.

He noted that, where necessary, the data could also be shared with relevant government agencies, such as the Health Ministry, or mental health professionals to facilitate early assistance for students facing challenges.

The application is expected to be expanded to 570 schools across Terengganu in the future and aligns with the Education Ministry’s National Digitalisation Policy.

Kamsah also highlighted the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in improving communication with students and stakeholders, including parents.

“Terengganu is taking bold steps in integrating AI into the education system, and we hope this initiative will have a positive impact on education not only in the state but across the country,” he said.
