Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge Management Warns Public Against Lighting Flares, Citing Serious Safety Risks

Date:

The management of the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge has warned the public against engaging in dangerous acts, such as lighting flares on the iconic landmark, citing serious safety risks to the public.

TI Properties Sdn Bhd, in a Facebook statement, said it was concerned over a group of football supporters who lit flares on the bridge yesterday evening.

“Open use of flares can pose multiple safety hazards, including fire, minor explosions, injuries to pedestrians, and threats to the structure and public facilities. Such actions endanger the public and tarnish the state’s image as well as the reputation of the bridge, a key tourist attraction in Kuala Terengganu,” the statement read.

The management added that it would not hesitate to take strict legal action against individuals involved and urged public cooperation to ensure the bridge remains a source of pride for Terengganu.

Earlier, 33 Selangor FC supporters were remanded to assist in investigations into the disturbance on the bridge. The incident occurred around 6:30pm, prior to the Super League match between Terengganu FC and Selangor FC at Stadium Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin in Kuala Nerus.

Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor, said the group was among roughly 400 supporters detained and taken to the district police headquarters for urine testing.
