A 16-year-old boy in Kedah, Malaysia, tragically died after spending three days in a coma following a crash with a car that ran a red light. The driver of the car has been identified as a serving police officer from the Yan District Police Headquarters.

The fatal accident occurred at around 9:15 PM on July 28 at a traffic light intersection in the town of Guar Chempedak. CCTV footage and preliminary investigations revealed that the officer was driving from Jenun towards Yan when he ran a red light and slammed into the motorcycle, which had the right of way and was traveling from Alor Setar towards Gurun.
The young motorcyclist, identified as Iman Danial from Guar Chempedak, suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries at around 8 PM on July 31.
Yan District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Hamizi confirmed that the driver involved is an active-duty police officer. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death. If convicted, the officer faces up to five years in jail, a fine between RM5,000 and RM15,000, and a minimum five-year driving license suspension.
