Justin Timberlake has opened up about a personal health struggle, revealing he was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease. The 44-year-old singer, actor, and former NSYNC member shared the news in a heartfelt Instagram post, saying the diagnosis came as a shock and helped explain months of unexplained nerve pain, fatigue, and illness he experienced while on tour.
Reflecting on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, Timberlake described the experience as “the most fun, emotional, gratifying, physically demanding, and, at times, grueling” chapter of his career. He explained that he chose to push through the physical challenges, saying, “I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I’m so glad I kept going.”
Timberlake said he was initially hesitant to go public with his diagnosis, having been raised to keep personal matters private. But he chose to share in hopes of shedding light on the realities of living with Lyme disease, a tick-borne bacterial infection that can be both mentally and physically debilitating.
“I now have so many special moments with all of you that I will never forget,” he wrote, adding that the experience helped him prove his own resilience.
In recent months, Timberlake had come under fire from fans who felt his live performances were underwhelming. Clips circulated online showing the audience singing large portions of his set, with some critics suggesting he wasn’t putting in enough vocal effort. Earlier this year, he canceled the final show of his U.S. tour in Columbus, Ohio just minutes before it was scheduled to begin, citing flu-like symptoms. The concert had already been postponed from November due to bronchitis and laryngitis.
Despite these challenges, Timberlake is choosing transparency and strength, aiming to bring awareness to the realities of his condition while expressing gratitude for the support he’s received from fans.
