Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has consented to the renaming of Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UnIPSAS) to a new title, Universiti Al-Quran, marking it as Malaysia’s first Quran-focused university.
The Sultan highlighted that this initiative strengthens the promotion of Islam in Pahang by establishing an institution where Quranic studies form the foundation of education. He noted that the renaming is more than symbolic; it signals a clear direction for the university to serve as a centre for both intellectual and spiritual development anchored in the Quran.
“This rebranding is like raising a landmark at the peak of the state, making the direction and purpose unmistakably clear,” the Sultan said in a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Pahang Sultanate today.
He expressed hopes that Universiti Al-Quran, whose formal declaration is expected soon, will become a perennial source of knowledge, spreading understanding of the Quran widely while producing scholars, preachers, and leaders guided by divine revelation.
“The establishment of this university is also expected to elevate Pahang Darul Makmur as a blessed and enlightened state of learning,” the Sultan added.
