Police have confirmed that the white MPV seen using blue flashing lights on the Maju Expressway was operating for official government ministry duties.
Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement chief Zamzuri Isa stated that the vehicle’s use of the beacon light had been authorised by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). “The MPV and its owner have been identified, and arrangements are being made for the vehicle to undergo inspection,” he said.
The announcement follows widespread attention on social media after a dashcam video showed the MPV weaving through evening traffic on the expressway while flashing blue lights and sounding sirens, prompting other vehicles to make way.
Zamzuri noted that, although the MPV was on official duty, the act captured in the video may contravene the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rules 1959, which limits flashing warning lights to approved emergency vehicles. The incident could also fall under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonation of a public officer, depending on the investigation’s outcome.
