Form Five Student Arrested For Allegedly Burning Form One Pupil With Cigarettes In Bentong

Date:

Police have detained a 17-year-old Form Five student for allegedly assaulting a Form One pupil by burning him with cigarettes at a school hostel in Bentong.

The suspect was arrested yesterday following a report lodged by the victim’s family, Bentong District Police Headquarters confirmed.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said initial investigations revealed the incident took place around midnight in a hostel toilet.

“The victim was reportedly ordered to smoke a cigarette but refused, after which the suspect allegedly used the cigarettes to inflict abuse,” he said.

The younger pupil immediately informed the hostel warden and was taken to Bentong Hospital for medical treatment. Doctors confirmed he sustained chest injuries and soft tissue damage, with visible cigarette burn marks on his body.

Authorities are investigating the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. A conviction under this provision carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or whipping.

This incident highlights growing concerns over bullying and violence in school hostels, prompting calls for stricter supervision and preventive measures.
