Malaysian Worker’s RM65 Pay Rise Sparks Debate Over Salary Fairness

Date:

A Malaysian employee has gone viral after voicing frustration over a meagre salary increment this year, igniting a wider conversation about fairness in workplace pay.

In a social media post, the worker revealed: “Thanks to my company. Last year my increment was RM64, this year RM65. Already ready to use up my 14 days of MC. I feel a bit upset because whether my performance is an A or B, I still only get 60+, while some people get an A grade and an increment of over 100.”

The post underscores growing discontent among employees who feel their contributions aren’t properly acknowledged, particularly when pay raises seem inconsistent despite similar performance ratings.

Netizens were quick to share their own experiences, with many sympathising and others questioning company appraisal systems.

One user, little_imanamzar, commented: “Meanwhile… my bonus is 0… my increment is 0… and my angpao is RM10.” Another, _sssara.el, wrote: “I’ve worked at stingy companies before, but never as low as a RM60 increment. Still, five months after switching companies, Alhamdulillah, my salary has gone up by almost RM1,000!”

Humorous reactions also surfaced, with raranazry joking: “Hahaha, when your increment goes up less than 10%, you definitely have to use up your MC. I support this because my old company was the same.”
