Two Senior Police Officers Among Six Arrested Over Gombak Gang Robbery Case

Date:

Two senior police officers and a police constable are among six men arrested to assist investigations into a gang robbery that took place in the Gombak district, Kuala Lumpur on February 27.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the robbery was reported at around 7.30am, prompting authorities to launch a special operation to track down the suspects involved.

According to him, investigations and intelligence gathering carried out by the Selangor Contingent Criminal Investigation Department together with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Gombak District Police Headquarters (IPD) led to several arrests beginning March 2.

“In the operation, police detained six local men at several separate locations.

“Out of the six suspects, three are civil servants — comprising two senior police officers and a police personnel — while the remaining three are members of the public,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Shazeli added that background checks revealed one of the civilian suspects has as many as 20 previous criminal records, raising concerns over repeat offences among individuals linked to organised crime.

He said all six suspects have been remanded until March 8 to facilitate further investigations.

Police also seized RM11,498 in cash along with several items believed to be linked to the case.

“Among the items confiscated were a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, a Chery Omoda 5, and a Toyota Hiace van,” he said.

Further searches uncovered three vests bearing the word “Polis”, two gold bars weighing 100 grams, as well as 13 mobile phones of various brands believed to be connected to the suspects’ activities.

Authorities are currently working to locate two additional suspects who are still believed to be at large.

“Efforts to track down the remaining individuals are ongoing following information obtained from the suspects who have already been arrested,” Shazeli said.

He stressed that the Selangor Police Contingent will not compromise in its investigation, even if members of the force are involved.

“A transparent and thorough investigation is being conducted and firm action will be taken to ensure the integrity of the police force and the safety of the public remain safeguarded,” he added.
