Police Nab Parang-Wielding Suspect Hours After Petrol Station Armed Robbery

Date:

Police apprehended a 42-year-old man suspected of carrying out an armed robbery at a petrol station in Kampung Desa Murni, Kerdau, Termerloh, Pahang just hours after the incident on March 7.

The suspect was detained by the Temerloh Criminal Investigation Division at 4.15am yesterday, following a coordinated operation. Authorities also seized a Proton Persona and a parang believed to have been used during the crime.

Temerloh police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasyim Bahron, said the suspect, wearing a face mask and carrying a sling bag, entered the petrol station at 7.30pm. He reportedly threatened the cashier with a parang and demanded all cash from the drawer, totalling approximately RM2,000, before leaving in the unregistered Persona.

“Acting on intelligence, our team managed to apprehend the suspect and recovered the vehicle, a Yamaha motorcycle, helmet, face mask, knives, parang, and cash believed stolen from the petrol station,” Nasyim said.

Following the arrest, police also linked the suspect to two additional robberies at 24-hour convenience stores in Temerloh, allegedly committed between March 1 and March 7.

The suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine, has been remanded until March 10 to assist with investigations. The case is being probed under Sections 392 and 397 of the Penal Code, which carry a maximum 10-year jail term, and may include a fine and whipping upon conviction.

CCTV footage captured the suspect wearing an orange cap and carrying a black bag, approaching the cashier only after confirming the area was clear. The terrified cashier complied, placing the cash from a blue basket inside the drawer into the suspect’s sling bag before he exited the premises.
