Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has confirmed that he will not be returning to UMNO despite an open invitation from the party under its Rumah Bangsa initiative. However, he remains open to working with the party led by Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to advance the “Reset” agenda he is championing.
Speaking at a Majlis Iftar with the Opposition Leader on Monday, the Larut MP said, “There’s no need to join UMNO. Many parties are with me, so I’ll see what’s best for the future of the people. What matters is that everyone agrees on resetting what has happened in the country, as there are issues that clearly need correction. UMNO can certainly be one of the members supporting this effort to ensure things are resolved properly.”
Previously, UMNO had announced that it is welcoming former members, suspended individuals, and anyone wishing to contribute to the party’s mission. UMNO Supreme Council member Razlan Rafii also urged Hamzah and his supporters to return to the party rather than forming a new political entity.
On the formation of his new party, Hamzah confirmed that the registration process for Parti Keluarga Malaysia (PKM) is ongoing, following a previous rejection by the Registrar of Societies in 2022. He explained that several aspects still need refinement.
“Of course, discussions involve all the details. I don’t want anything to be overlooked, especially regarding the party constitution. There are aspects that don’t align with my nature as a fighter, so I need time to review them carefully,” he said.
