Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, has unveiled a new addition to its traffic enforcement team — a humanoid AI robot capable of directing traffic and monitoring violations in real time.
According to reports by China Central Video (央视频), the robotic traffic officer began operations on March 6 at the intersection of Wuhua Avenue and Yabao Road.
The AI unit can synchronise with traffic signals, adjusting its gestures to correspond with the red and green lights.
Equipped with an AI recognition system in its eyes, the robot monitors the intersection continuously.
It can detect infractions such as riders not wearing helmets or vehicles crossing stop lines at red lights.
When violations are identified, the robot issues warning sounds and broadcasts guidance to encourage compliance, enhancing both safety and efficiency at busy junctions.
