The Hsinchu District Court has sentenced a local man to three years and 10 months in prison following a series of disturbing offences involving a girl under the age of 14. The defendant was found guilty of multiple counts of sexual assault, violations of the Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act, and causing bodily harm. The victim and the accused reportedly met through a dating application in February last year, and despite being fully aware of the girl’s age, the man engaged in repeated sexual encounters with her while recording explicit material.
The severity of the exploitation escalated in March last year when the man forced the girl to go to a public park near Nanliao Fishing Port. In a depraved act of humiliation, he ordered the child to strip naked and crawl on the ground while he filmed the ordeal. Such actions reflect a complete disregard for the victim’s dignity and have been cited by the court as having a profound negative impact on her psychological development. Such public displays of degradation highlight the extreme risks children face in the digital age when predators move from online platforms to physical coercion.
In a separate incident, the man’s behaviour turned violent after he discovered the victim had accepted a social invitation from someone else. Overcome with rage, he assaulted the girl with a clothes hanger, leaving her with visible bruising and injuries across her legs, arms, and hips. The abuse only came to light after the girl’s father noticed the physical marks and immediately sought medical attention before lodging a police report. This case serves as a grim reminder of how digital exploitation can quickly spiral into severe physical domestic violence.
During the proceedings, the judge noted that the defendant took advantage of a child whose mental and emotional maturity was not yet fully developed. By producing and storing multiple sexual images and orchestrating a public display of humiliation, the man caused severe trauma to the victim’s personality and growth. The court emphasised that the risk of these images being leaked remains a persistent threat to the victim’s future well-being, necessitating a firm judicial response to deter similar predatory behaviour in the community.
While the court acknowledged that the defendant admitted to the crimes and had reached a settlement with the victim’s family, the gravity of the multiple offences necessitated a custodial sentence. Consequently, the judge handed down a combined sentence of 3 years and 10 months. The mobile phone used to record the illicit material has been confiscated by the authorities to prevent further distribution of the sensitive content. The case remains eligible for appeal under the current legal framework.
