Tawau Kitchen Assistant Slashed With Fish Knife Over Uncooked Rice

Date:

A 21-year-old kitchen assistant was arrested after allegedly attacking his colleague with a fish knife at a restaurant in Kubota Sentral, Tawau, last Saturday. The violent outburst was reportedly triggered by a simple reprimand regarding uncooked rice.

The incident occurred at approximately 5.40 pm while both men were on duty. According to Tawau District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin, the victim had reminded the suspect that the rice was not yet ready, causing the younger man to lose his temper. In a sudden fit of rage, the suspect lunged at his coworker with a 33-centimetre blade.

As a result of the sudden assault, the victim sustained a deep gash on his left hand. He was rushed to Tawau Hospital, where he required 10 stitches for his injuries. Following medical treatment, the victim lodged a formal police report at 9.31 pm that same evening.

Acting on the report, a team from the Tawau District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department apprehended the suspect near a restaurant at Jalan Habib Hussein around 7.00 pm yesterday. During the arrest, authorities recovered the fish knife and a white plastic sheet believed to be linked to the case.

The suspect remains in custody, and the case is currently being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons.
